Non-ventilatory Functions of the Lung

Abstract
|
|
|
The non-ventilatory functions of the lung have become a successful focus for research effort in recent years. Among these functions there were self-cleaning mechanisms, an efficient waterdrainage machinery, fibrinolytic mechanisms and metabolic activites. Pulmonary metabolism of biologically active substances may exert an important regulatory influence on systemic blood pressure and on fluid and electrolyte balance.
This review is confined to these non-ventilatory functions of the lung.
